Tovačov Chateau

Cimburkova 2
751 01 Tovačov / Show map

According to legend, the chateau with the characteristic so-called Spaniel Tower was founded in the second half of the 11th century as a refuge for hunters, later it served as a well-protected water fortress. During the last Cimburks, the reconstruction of the castle into a Renaissance chateau began. The eastern wing was built in the late Renaissance forms by the Pernštejn family and they also began to modify the southern wing. In the left wing of the castle there is a unique copy of the staircase of the Vienna Opera. The complex includes a complex of buildings with a tower and ramparts and a castle park.

The castle has a permanent exhibition of the Prussian-Austrian battle of Tovačov from 1866 and an exhibition dedicated to the personality of Ctibor Tovačovský of Cimburk. There is also a gallery of paintings by academic painter Vlastimil Kozák.
